Hiya,

I'm interested in getting a range of opinions on the recent SOPA bill. My actor friends whine to me about how the internet is killing independent films production companies due to file sharing. Whilst I agree that internet piracy is seriously damaging certain industries I cannot see how governments can effectively put a stop to it.

File sharing sites are the modern day 'hydra'. One gets shut down another 4 take its place. File sharing per say is one of the most valuable assets the internet gives us, but it can't be policed in the way Hollywood would want it?

I'm trying to get a better handle on it. Any people much more clued up than me who have an opinion I'd be very interested!

Oh yes, and here's something that made me laugh on the subject!

RE: Internet Piracy vs Freedom of Speech: SOPA BILL
I'm shocked and appalled.

Your title is wrong : there is no versus if everybody agrees on no internet, speech and information control by the government.

Internet piracy goes along the freedom to express one's self without having to be a billionnaire just to be able to do so.

Why should we not be part of the future ? Should the government spend money on educating the poor on new technologies ?

We know now, that video does confirm what was thought out long ago.

For now, "I'll stick to my gun",

Check.
